There are an astonishing 12 million pension pots worth less than £1,000 which are no longer being contributed to. This finding, part of a report published by our Pensions Review (in partnership with the IFS), shows how easy it is for people to lose track of their pensions. Authors recommend small, deferred pension pots should be consolidated by default, with people being given the option to opt out if they wish. This would reduce the stock of uneconomical pension pots, and should make it easier for people to manage their savings.

Childcare overhaul needed
A new report by the Institute for Policy Research at the University of Bath looked into childcare on Universal Credit. Researchers found the childcare refund system can leave users worse off and make it difficult to take on more hours. Read more

The latest Financial Fairness Tracker finds a third of households in Scotland (32%) report having nothing in savings. This is much higher than the rest of the UK (23%). The gap between Scotland and the rest of the UK also appears to be widening. Find out more
